Children should love art. It should be a doorway into another world and a means of recreation and expression that they can enjoy throughout their lives.
Art should be used to educate through its links to History, Geography, PSHE and British Values. Close ties to Topics should help children to gain a deeper understanding of their complexities. They should see how art reflects, responds and contributes to developing changes in society.
Children should appreciate how the art world embraces a wide range of styles and forms. They should experience a wide range of art media and techniques while developing key skills across the years. Art should be given the same respect as other subjects, expectations and challenges should be equal to those set in Maths and English.
Children should learn the language of the art world. They should understand art as a means of personal expression and start to develop their own tastes, opinions and styles.
